The Wet Method The "Wet Method" of cleaning digital camera sensors is the method in which a wet chemical is used. The advantage to using this method exclusively, is that you CAN remove "Welded Dust"* unlike the "Dry Method". The Sensor Swab™ and Eclipse™ version is the original version of the "Wet Method" and is the ONLY physical contact method (be it wet or dry) that is endorsed by a camera manufacturer. The Following are Common Wet Methods
All manufactures use "Wet Methods" for in-house sensor cleaning. Only Kodak, Fuji, and Leica support the consumer in using the same method that they themselves use for cleaning the low pass filter. Nikon does sell a "Wet Method" cleaning kit in Japan only that sells for 8,200 yen. Of these major "Wet Methods" the only difference between the first two, is the applicator where the Sensor Swab™,, is pre-made and done so in a clean room environment where the Sensor Wand is wrapped with a Pec*Pad™ by the user. Sensor Clean™, differs as it is a different chemical that is not flammable and is travel safe. Sensor Clean™ comes with some cotton tipped applicators, but can be used with either the Sensor Swab™ or Sensor Wand™. The Nikon Kit contains no chemicals as you must provide it yourself. I don't know what they are recommending, but it does contain a chopstick, cut into a wedge and a tissue to wrap around the chopstick as the applicator. |
